Monday Morning with Lady Liberty and Ellis Is.

For our last morning in New York we took the 9:30 a.m. ferry from Battery Park to the Statue of Liberty and then the connection to Ellis Island. Both National Park sites were pretty nifty.

I love visiting places with history. There's a power that can be felt. A feeling of reverence for those who made the journey to America. Overwhelming awe of how one place can so strongly influence the lives of countless generations. I especially loved the patriotism that is embodied into the very thought of these monuments. Lady Liberty is recognized world wide, not because she's a masterpiece (although the makers really were talented), but because she stands for America, a better life, individual rights and freedom. Just as the statue of Moroni atop our LDS temples doesn't stand as a worship of Moroni himself, Moroni AND the Statue of Liberty are both beacons of blessings, reminders of promises, and guides to the Lord's holy places.
(Photo of the NYC LDS Temple! We would've attended church there on Sunday, but the chapel floor was under construction. :(
